Lucy C.: Passion and productivity in the automotive industry
- 3
It takes a well-coordinated team and a common goal – both at work and in sport. Lucy C., plant manager at voestalpine Automotive Components Tianjin, is convinced of this. Since August 2023, the enthusiastic team sportswoman has been in charge of the Automotive Components Group’s newest plant, which produces ready-to-install crash protection parts for well-known car manufacturers. With a focus on complex assembly parts, the plant is a technology partner for the Asian automotive market in a strategically central location near the technology hub of Beijing. Together with her team, Lucy takes care of quality, customer satisfaction, safety, efficiency and environmental issues.
In daily meetings with the team, Lucy discusses the most important points to ensure the performance of the plant: Have there been any particular incidents? Are there any current problems to be solved? Where is there a need for optimisation? As an interface, she is also the central point of contact for the exchange of information between the plant in Tianjin and the headquarters in Europe. Communication with various departments and experts is generally an important part of her role. Lucy C. leads and manages projects and supports her team with challenging tasks. Constantly acquiring new knowledge and sharing her expertise and experience with her colleagues is also important to her.
With more than 16 years of experience in the automotive industry, Lucy is ideally equipped for these demanding tasks. At university, she decided to focus on the automotive industry and chose “Auto applied engineering” as her major. Most of Lucy’s career to date has been dedicated to quality management. Even though her current job as a plant manager is much broader, she never takes her eyes off quality.
Further development and lifelong learning are not only important to Lucy in her job, personal development also plays a major role in her life. In addition to her demanding job, she is currently completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Almost every weekend, she travels almost 900 kilometers on the high-speed train to take part in courses and activities at the university. Lucy uses her travelling time to answer emails and study for her MBA. Her favorite sports are basketball, badminton and football. She is a big fan of Lionel Messi, one of the best footballers in the world. “I am fascinated by his skills and performances, but above all by his perseverance and the fact that he is the soul of the team. I really like the teamwork and the energy you develop when you face a challenge together,” says Lucy Chang.
Teamwork is also a success factor for the operations manager at work. When she and her team are faced with a challenge, they find the perfect solution together. With her experience, passion and positive attitude, she is certainly a confident pillar of success for the still young plant in Tianjin.
